Pandora Radio Canada: A Step By Step Guide

I Love Pandora Radio CanadaPandora Radio Canada is the granddaddy of them all when it comes to streaming music online.

Their ambitious music genome project has been a massive undertaking and one that has resulted in a success online radio station that you seed with an artist or song and, magically, it plays hit after hit.

If you live in Canada and you’ve found this page we’re sure you’ve already seen this very sad image when trying to listen to Pandora Radio Canada.

Pandora restricted in Canada

DO NOT WORRY! In this guide we are going to show you that it is possible to listen to Pandora Radio in Canada or from anywhere around the world!

If you’ve ever experienced Pandora radio we don’t have to tell you how amazing it is… but for those of you who haven’t ever had the chance to let Pandora select songs based on what you like you’ll have to trust us that you’re missing out!

What Pandora radio does is something special. You start off by entering an artist, song or genres and based on your selection Pandora will navigate thorough the over 800,000 songs in their library to play you songs that are similar to what you entered.

You have the choice to give a song a “thumbs up” or a “thumbs down” which tells Pandora if they’re on the right track or not. Typically, after an hour or two of listening to your new Pandora Internet radio station it’s figured you out and is playing hit after hit! Seriously, the way most people describe their Pandora experience is as follows: I just keep saying “this is a GREAT song” every song it plays!

So, since you’re in Canada and Pandora is restricted to people living outside of the United States, what can you do to access the most amazing internet radio available? Well, here at HowToGetItInCanada.com we’ve figured out a great way to access Pandora Radio Canada (and around the world for that matter) and it’s as easy as 1-2-3!!!

Step 1: Get HMA

HMA offers the best and most affordable pro VPN service we could find! If that doesn’t mean anything to you, don’t worry! What a VPN (virtual private network) does is rather ingenious. When you connect to HMA’s Pro VPN service it establishes a secure internet connection between your internet provider and HMA’s VPN servers. By doing this, you can virtually reside in the USA making you able to access Pandora Internet Radio!

Step 2: Download HMA

Downloading HMA is a quick and easy process and works on Macs, PCs and even Linux. After you log into your HMA account you’re going to click “Download software” in the top left corner:

Download HMA

Next you’re going to launch HMA and tell it where you want to connect. We recommend selecting the “Random 10 closest servers base on geographical location” if you’re in Canada. If you’re elsewhere in the world we recommend you select “Random North America – United States of America”. All you need to do now to completely set up HMA is click “Connect to VPN”.

HMA Control Panel

Step 3: Listen to Pandora Radio Canada!

Now that you’re virtually residing in the United States you can simply visit www.pandora.com and start listening to the most amazing internet radio right away!

Here is a video recapping the steps you need to take in order to be able to listen to Pandora in Canada or wherever you are in the world. Pandora in Canada is simply amazing and we hope that you enjoy it!

Not only does using HMA to virtually reside in the USA grant you access to Pandora Radio Canada it will also allow you to watch full episodes of TV shows and thousands of movies online. Jeremy, I actually can’t believe it’s been this long without a “blame Canada” comment!

Accessing Pandora in Canada is just one of the many benefits of HMA including a secure and anonymous internet connection which can keep you safe when using sketchy wifi connections.

If you’re going to need to rely on using public wifi while in Canada (or even just use the one at your local Starbucks) you should consider adding HMA to your security tool box.

      Enjoy Canada!

It’s to bad that the Canadian music rights societies & the Copyright Board of Canada want Pandora to pay 45% of its gross Canadian revenues if they were to establish themselves in Canada.
45% percent of gross revenues! Talk about unheralded greed.
So now they force all Canadian music lovers to purchase or even find a vpn services so they can listen to Pandora, and the Canadian Recording Industry Association (who are also responsible for not allowing Pandora in Canada) will receive $0 revenue from Canadians who listen to Pandora anyway. Does this make any sense?
People in this generation (esp the younger generation) are very tech Savvy. They will and can find a way to reciver Pandora radio in Canada or anywhere else in the world for that matter. The Canadian Recording Industry Association better wake up. Lower the license fees for Pandora. There are thousands of Canadians getting Pandora because of their business practices. Some money is better than NO money!

Ron, Thanks for your passionate comment! I agree with you, it’s too bad that the “powers that be” don’t change their stance and make it economically feasible for Pandora to be offered to Canadians without the use of a VPN.

In the mean time we can all enjoy Pandora thanks to HMA!

Question. If I sign up here, will I be able to receive the service in my car? I have a new Alpine Pandora ready car stereo, will it work in that?

    Thanks,
    Darrell

Darrell, I do not think you will be able to and here is why:

HMA needs to be installed on the device that is trying to access Pandora. I don’t know of any ways to get HMA onto an Alping Pandora ready car stereo.

What you can do, is put HMA onto your iPhone or other smartphone and then stream Pandora over 3G and connect your phone to your car’s audio system. Most newer cars have a simple Aux-in cable port.

Sorry I didn’t have better news, but using your phone with HMA and connecting that to your car is very easy and effective! You can learn more about this method in this guide: How to Listen to Pandora in Canada on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

Recently Canada has begun tracking downloading activities with an eye to persecute individuals in the same fashion they do in the US. Is it possible to use HMA to disguise my Canadian IP address when using file sharing sites such as Pirate Bay?

HMA does encrypt your internet connection but I, obviously, can’t recommend doing anything illegal while using it.

With HMA you can access the US Netflix library, Hulu, Hulu Plus, etc. There should be enough content available there that you don’t need to pirate.

Do you have a smart phone? If so you can use this guide on how to listen to Pandora on your smartphone in Canada and then connect your smart phone to your stereo with a mini-to-mini auxiliary cable.

Other than that… I don’t think there is a great way. Unless your stereo connects to your internet connection through wifi. If it does you can use a DD-WRT enabled router where you will install HMA. Then your stereo will connect to the special router and you stereo will be virtually residing in the USA.

      Hope this helps 🙂

When I open the HMA pop up box, it has Dashboard, IP address settings, etc., but I do not see where it says what the PPTP is. And I do not see where I put the PPTP in on my iPhone.
There is a page on my iPhone that says L2TP, PPTP and IPSec at the top. I have PPTP highlighted and everything filled in on that page, is that what you are referring to?
Thank you so much for your help.

You mentioned in one of your replies that HMA needs to be installed on the device that is trying to access Pandora. I just recently purchased CC WiFi Internet Radio which is capable of receiving Pandora music. I have set up a Pandora account but being in Canada, I am unable to receive pandora stations on this WiFi radio. Is there a way to get HMA on this radio? Any other suggestions?

I haven’t used a CC WiFi Internet Radio before… but if it connects to your home WiFi network then you’ll need to get a DD-WRT enabled router where you can install HMA so your entire WiFi network can be virtually residing in the USA.

If I would like to access Pandora on several devices (at different times or in different locations), can I do that through a single HMA account or do I need to have an HMA account with each device separately? ie: if I want to use Pandora sometimes from my iphone but other times from an ipad or ipod or computer, etc. can I just setup one HMA account & then log into that 1 HMA account on each device that I want to access Pandora from? Is this an easy way to use Pandora or will I need to be re-logging in every time I switch devices?
