A friend was telling me the other day that he was looking to save money each month by cutting out some of his monthly expenses.
He quickly noted that his cell phone service was not on the chopping block nor was his gym membership, car payment or mortgage for obvious reasons.
This very quickly lead the discussion into which of his expenses he was willing to cut out without significantly changing his quality of life. So what about cutting his:
Electricity? Nope.
Natural gas? Nope.
Internet? Nope.
I told him that, even though I do still have a cable TV package, I stream most of my shows from sites like Hulu, Netflix and I watch hockey (blackout free by the way) on NHL GameCenter Live.
After a short discussion surrounding if relying solely on online content was feasible he asked me: “I’ve head that Canadian Netflix kind of sucks… so, is Canadian Netflix worth is“?
My response to him was “who still only relies on Canadian Netflix anymore?!?”
He looked a little confused but I quickly explained to him that by simply using a Pro VPN you are able to virtually reside in the USA which means that you can watch the American version of Netflix right here in Canada.
He was skeptical at first, but after I showed him just how easy it is to set up HMA on your computer, tablet, smartphone, etc. he jumped on board and signed up for a free trial of Netflix.
To get him started I told him to turn on HMA and check out Sons of Anarchy, Good Will Hunting, Battlestar Galactica which are all shows that you can only stream from Netflix USA.
Just look at some of these before and afters, from Canada, when HMA is turned off and turned on.
Before HMA is turned on (what you would normally see from Canada):

Back To The Original Question
Is Canadian Netflix worth it? At $7.99/month it’s one heck of a deal considering most cable TV packages are north of $50/month and once you start adding in premium channels and HD programming you can very easily get up over $100/month or $1,200/year.
Now, getting a Netflix account in Canada and NOT using HMA to access the US Netflix library from Canada make Netflix Canada a hard sell for me. Did you know that most people believe, on average, that the US Netflix library is 6.5 times bigger than the Canadian library!?!?
Doesn’t HMA Cost Money?
HMA is not free, but the small investment each money of as little as $6.55 is well worth it. Adding HMA doesn’t even double your expenses for of your Netflix Canada subscription, but it allows you to access 6.5 times as many shows, movies and other amazing streaming content on demand whenever you want.
Plus, giving this a try is completely risk free since Netflix offers a free 7-day trial and HMA has an even more generous 30-day money back guarantee!
